Towns, coalitions and victory

Read public ownership, protect sovereignty and keep a Dominion majority.

Towns belong to rulers#

Realm towns show their owners publicly. Ownership does not reveal nearby armies or explore the terrain around the town. Capture progress is visible only through lawful sight. Eligible military must remain in range without qualifying opposition; villagers and caravans cannot capture for you. More units do not multiply the capture speed.

A coalition supplies shared protection and a capture group. It does not combine stocks, research, army control or vision. Members must agree to the same proposal. After joining, the group must finish ratification before it becomes eligible to win together. Leaving ends eligibility immediately, while protection lasts through the departure notice.

Three paths to victory#

Conquest depends on surviving sovereignty: protect completed Town Halls or Keeps. An unfinished replacement does not save a ruler who loses their last sovereignty building. Eliminated members do not share a later partner victory.

Dominion requires an eligible group to hold the required town majority after the opening period, continuously through its countdown. Losing the majority or group eligibility resets that countdown. Joining or leaving is not a way to preserve an old group's progress.

From the High Medieval Age a Great Work can win by Prestige, for its owner or the owner's eligible coalition, unless the match switched Prestige victory off. When more than one path completes at the same moment, Conquest decides first, then Dominion, then Prestige, and the result lists every path the winners completed. Two groups reaching Prestige at the same moment, with nothing else deciding, is a draw.

An eliminated coalition member may receive the original surviving partner's lawful spectator view. It is not map-wide vision or control; the partner joining an outsider permanently ends that grant. See development rules for the current objective durations and thresholds.
