Advancing your age
Research at a Town Hall unlocks later construction and production.
Choose an idle Town Hall#
The Founding, Territorial, Kingdom and High Medieval Ages are successive ages in the current development rules. The High Medieval Age, the fourth, is researched from the Kingdom Age and also costs stone. Some culture groups name an age their own way; for example, the Steppe Confederacies call the third age the Khanate Age. The technology is the same. An owned completed Town Hall starts the next age only when it is free to research and the full price is available. One advancement can be in progress for your civilization at a time. The researching hall cannot also train units.
Age progress belongs to your civilization. Other rulers can see your completed age without seeing the location or private progress of the researching hall. The available construction and production options change when research completes.
Protect unfinished research#
Destroying the researching hall before completion loses its unfinished paid work. Completing an age is permanent even if that hall is destroyed later. Cancelling unfinished research refunds its original paid cost only when the entire refund fits; it cannot be repeatedly cancelled for extra resources.
Diplomacy is not a late-age unlock. Its availability depends on the match mode. The generated reference lists current research prices and durations. This article makes no claim that every later-age control or culture selector is mounted in the current client.
